Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro - Sixty (60) victims of supertyphoon Haiyan (Local name: Yolanda) in Barangay Balatasan, municipality of Bulalacao in Oriental Mindoro were trained in basic carpentry skills to aid in the rebuilding of community infrastructures and the victims' own homes. The municipality of Bulalacao, though not in the direct path of the super-typhoon, is one of the hardest-hit municipalities in the province but experienced much less impact than North Palawan.

Puerto Princesa, Palawan - Sixty nine (69) Bridging Employment through Skills Training (BEST) program scholars received their NCII certificates after completing their 3-month vocational schooling at Puerto Princesa School of Arts and Trade.

Batangas City, Batangas - Four hundred eighty (480) new graduates of Malampaya Foundation Inc.'s (MFI) Bridging Employment through Skills Training (BEST) program were granted their NCII certificates on December 19, 2013 at the Batangas City Convention Center witnessed by officials from the Batangas City government, Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) provincial office and the Department of Labor (DOLE) provincial office.

Subic, Zambales - Over 500 finishers of short-term courses under Malampaya Foundation Inc.'s (MFI's) Project Galing at Negosyo Dulot ay Asenso (GANDA) and Sanayan sa Ikauunlad ng Kaalamang Pangkabuhayan (SIKAP) celebrated graduation on December 10, 2013 at the Keppel Training Center in the municipality of Subic.

Coron, Palawan - Malampaya Foundation Inc.'s (MFI) rehabilitation assistance in Coron commenced with training able-bodied males in basic carpentry and building skills to aid in the proper rehabilitation and repair of infrastructures such as homes, schools, day care centers, boats and other community structures. The rehabilitation project is being conducted as part of MFI's Sanayan sa Ikauunlad ng Kaalamang Pangkabuhayan (SIKAP) program.

Coron, Palawan - Many crossed a mountain barefoot to receive relief from the aftermath of a super typhoon. The resilient dwellers of islands and remote areas in Northern Palawan, many of them belonging to the Tagbanua tribe, though hurt by Haiyan (local name: Yolanda) carry on to rebuild their lives.

MFI mobilized to provide relief to victims of typhoon Haiyan (local name: Yolanda) in the northern Palawan municipalities of Coron, Culion and Busuanga. Relief was through provision of packed food, bottled water, hygiene kits and fuel.

Batangas City - A record 210 scholars graduated from Malampaya Foundation's (MFI) Bridging Employment through Skills Training (BEST) Program on October 25, 2013, a milestone that was celebrated with the Batangas City Government, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and various educational institution partners of MFI.

Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro - The Provincial Agriculture Office of Oriental Mindoro and Malampaya Foundation Inc. teamed up to engage and educate the youth sector to be coastal environment stewards in an environmental youth camp meant to educate about the rich but fast-deteriorating coastal and marine ecosystem of the country.

Subic, Zambales - Seventy (70) scholars completed their courses under Project Galing at Negosyo Dulot ay Asenso (GANDA), a capacity-building program geared for enterprise development, employment or self-employment in the areas of culinary arts, sewing, personal grooming, personal wellness and food processing.

Batangas City - The Batangas City Government, Land Transportation Office Region 4-A, Batangas City Federation of Tricycle Operators and Drivers' Association and Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI), formally launched on October 5, 2013 the Kaligtasan sa Daan (KALSADA), a community-based road safety program that helps promote safe and defensive manner of driving through technical and behavioral safety education of road-users.

North Palawan - Coastal communities who signed conservation covenants with Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI) are now busy tending to their abalone grow-out culturing located close to their shores.

Puerto Princesa, Palawan - A total of sixty (60) BEST scholars in Palawan completed trainings in various trades, this time including tourism-related skills which is among those in high demand in the province of Palawan.

Subic, Zambales - Some 2,500 families severely affected by torrential rains, floods and landslides brought by the recent "Habagat" were provided relief goods by volunteers from Shell Philippines Exploration, Malampaya Foundation Inc., Keppel Shipyard, Brunel, Fluor-Amec and SOS in coordination with the local government of Subic.

Calapan, Oriental Mindoro - Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI) signed several conservation pacts to strengthen coastal and marine conservation efforts in several coastal municipalities and barangays in eastern Mindoro.

(MFI) with a KABALIKAT Award Industry Category for its Bridging Employment through Skills Training (BEST) Program on August 23, 2013 as part of the agency's 19th year anniversary celebration.

Subic, Zambales — Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI) and Subicena, with support from the Subic local government, launched on July 29, 2013 Project Galing at Negosyo Dulot ay Asenso (GANDA), a program which seeks to enable an important and influential sector of a community: the women.

Taytay, Palawan - Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI) today signed with Barangay Tumbod, Malampaya Sound Protected Land and Seascape (MSPLS) Protected Area Office and Samahan ng mga Nagkakaisa sa Kaunlaran ng Barangay Tumbod its first Conservation Agreement (CA) aimed at enhancing protection, conservation and management of protected zones within the MSPLS through a pioneering marine-based livelihood incentive system.

Subic, Zambales — Public utility vehicle drivers, particularly tricycle drivers, will receive education and training in defensive driving until the end of 2013 as part of Malampaya Foundation's Kaligtasan sa Daan (KALSADA) program in Subic.

Puerto Princesa City, Palawan- Fifty Eight (58) Bridging Employment through Skills Training (BEST) scholars received their NCII certification in different industrial trades at a graduation ceremony held in Puerto Princesa, Palawan on June 19, 2013 together with officials from Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Puerto Princesa School of Arts and Trade (PPSAT), Puerto Princesa City Philippine Employment Services Office (PESO), Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI) and Shell Phils Exploration (SPEX).

The first on-location Shoreline Communities Onwards to Resiliency (SHORE) training was brought to Isla Verde, an island off Batangas city and Oriental Mindoro, to capacitate the island-dwellers in responding to coastline and ocean-related emergencies as the residents have done on many occasions in the past. The training was conducted together with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Batangas and City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, MFI's partners for SHORE.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau's (DENR-PAWB), Philippine Coast Guard Auxilliary (PCGA), Malampaya Foundation (MFI) and University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute lead the celebration of Month-of-the-Ocean in Batangas on May 28, 2013 with the extraction of Acanthaster Plancis.

Malampaya Foundation (MFI) Bridging Employment through Skills Training (BEST) graduates of piping insulation pipefitting were immediately employed upon successful completion of their skills training in Batangas last April 2013. The 30 pipe fitters were trained at Concept Institute for Career Enhancement Inc., while the 30 piping insulators trained at Batangas Association for Guaranteed Metal Craft and Engineering Technology.

Twenty nine (29) welding scholars from Mindoro recently finished their five-month training in a technical-vocational course under Malampaya Foundation Inc’s (MFI) BEST (Bridging Employment through Skills Training) program at Keppel shipyard in Bauan, Batangas.

Linapacan eco-divers and MFI collected more crown of thorns starfish (COTs) at Pical reef, Linapacan in mid-April during a survey dive. Some 550 COTs were reportedly extracted by the recently-certified Reef Watch Team of Linapacan established by MFI with support from Reef Check Philippines.

DENR-PAWB, Batangas LGU Fisheries Division and Malampaya Foundation Inc. joined forces to combat Crown-of-Thorns (COT) infestation at Pagkilatan reefs, one of the remaining pristine reefs in Batangas Bay.

MFI's SHORE-trained Bantay Dagat Rescue Team volunteers from San Agustin Silangan, Isla Verde, Batangas City rescued eight (8) distressed passengers of a capsized boat in Batangas Bay last March 28. Strong winds and waves caused the capsizing, throwing the passengers into tempestuous waters.

Malampaya Foundation, Taytay Eco Divers and Reef Check Philippines collected three cratefuls of Crown-of-Thorns (COT) starfish (Acanthaster planci) at the Rakit Rakit reef in west Taytay, site of the Malampaya Sound Protected Landscape and Seascape in Palawan. The COT infestation was discovered during a survey dive to carry out an assessment of the reefs in the core zone of the protected area by the Reef Watch Team for Taytay recently established by Malampaya Foundation with support from Reef Check Philippines.

Malampaya Foundation's (MFI) Young Eco Savers program received a Merit Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of the Philippines on March 6, 2013 at the 48th Anvil Awards held at Shangri-la Makati.

Malampaya Foundation recently teamed up with the U.S. Peace Corps and the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro for the establishment of a province-wide Reef Watch Team. The formation of the Oriental Mindoro Reef Watch Team equips the province with competent community-based reef and species assessment team members to effectively monitor the status of the habitats and its inhabitants on a regular basis.

Malampaya Foundation piloted its program Upgrading the Standard of Education through Technology(USETEC) Program in three Batangas City schools. USETEC entails the provision of Knowledge Channel learning packages to supplement public school teachers’ learning materials and enhance the learning experience of public school students.
