(MFI) and its partners Philippine Red Cross-Batangas Chapter, Batangas Medical Center and the Philippine Medical Association Batangas Chapter held a Medical Mission on June 19 and 20, 2024 at the Ambulong covered court in partnership with the Barangay local government as part of the Malampaya Clinical Laboratory’s continuous medical outreach for partner communities in the city.

MFI continues support for Oriental Mindoro oil spill recovery through provision of marine engines for active bantay dagats

Naujan, Oriental Mindoro—Malampaya Foundation Inc (MFI) together with the provincial government of Oriental Mindoro (PGOM) yesterday turned over 46 Japan-made marine engines to active deputized bantay dagats (sea rangers) from the different coastal municipalities to support the strengthening of enforcement within municipal waters as part of the province’s 2023-2027 Oil Spill Recovery Plan.

(MFI) and Western Philippines University (WPU) conducted yesterday, April 11, 2024, pioneer release in the wild of six (6) Philippines’ true native giant clam Tridacna gigas sub adults at a No-Take Zone in the Bulalacao Marine Protected Area (MPA) in Coron, Palawan.

The year 2023 was another year of many triumphs and trials, if you recall, in the first quarter of the year alone, a tanker oil spill affected a number of our south Oriental Mindoro conservation sites.  Nonetheless, with the collective efforts of partners and other parties, the worst is over and we continue our support to partner communities in helping overcome this tragedy.

Effective community-based conservation and seasonal closure bears fruit

Pola, Oriental Mindoro--The combined effect of MPA and Enforcement Network, community-based coastal resource management efforts, and province-wide annual seasonal closure continues to bear fruit with the recent “fish-picking” phenomenon at Barangay Puting Cacao in Pola, Oriental Mindoro that was experienced by residents of this coastal barangay after the 7th cycle of the province’s annual seasonal closure from Nov 15 to Jan 15.

Oriental Mindoro —BPI Foundation (BPIF), the social arm of the Bank of Philippine Islands, and Malampaya Foundation Inc (MFI) teamed up and signed a partnership in September 2023 to undertake additional skills trainings in south Oriental Mindoro to support recovery of select oil spill-affected towns in the province.
