Coron, Palawan - Many crossed a mountain barefoot to receive relief from the aftermath of a super typhoon. The resilient dwellers of islands and remote areas in Northern Palawan, many of them belonging to the Tagbanua tribe, though hurt by Haiyan (local name: Yolanda) carry on to rebuild their lives.
With homes lacking roofs, torn walls, some homes completely blown away, boats unable to make their usual sojourn, local governments and several organizations including Malampaya Foundation (MFI) pitched in to provide relief to affected families in several locations in the Calamianes group of islands in North Palawan.
MFI provided over 5,000 relief bags containing food items and hygiene kits assembled by volunteers in far-off places such as Batangas and Puerto Princesa, and distributed in island barangays and remote areas of Coron, Culion and Busuanga, as contribution to the victims' initial phase of recovery from the disaster.
