Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro - Over 70 grade nine students and 15 teachers from the different municipalities of Oriental Mindoro took part in a Youth Camp to learn about coastal ecosystems and resources through classroom and field exposure methods.
The children learned about the various ecosystems, their interconnectivity, benefits, causes of degradation, threats, purpose of protected areas and the different environmental laws. Among the output is identification of conservation activities and sustainable financing mechanisms for youth-based resource management in select sites.
Roadshows and youth education are conducted annually as part of Malampaya Foundation’s Verde Island Passage Program in partnership with the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro to increase awareness and appreciation of ecosystems, as well as engaging the youth sector in conservation actions.
