Oriental Mindoro — Two (2) new marine protected area (MPA) ranger stations were completed by conservation partner stakeholders in Misong, Pola and Pili, Pinamalayan in Oriental Mindoro.
The new MPA ranger stations were inaugurated and turned-over on April 4 and 5, 2018 in ceremonies held with the municipal and barangay local governments, provincial agriculture office, community residents, volunteer bantay dagats (sea rangers) and Malampaya Foundation Inc (MFI).
The small structures will serve as enforcement stations for volunteer sea rangers, who are fisherfolk-residents of the coastal communities, for the protection of their respective MPA's. The stations were built via counter-parting between the partners, who signed conservation agreements for the implementation of grassroots-based marine biodiversity conservation and coastal resource management program.
