Nothing is more important than educating the next generation the importance of management and responsible utilization of natural resources in and around their communities.
As part of Malampaya Foundation Inc’s (MFIs) marine biodiversity conservation program, raising awareness by conducting community and school-based education drives has been an integral component of the foundation’s efforts in the coastal areas of the Verde Island Passage, Oriental Mindoro and north Palawan since 2012.
The IEC sessions include lectures, exercises and art to enrich the children’s learning experience. An exercise depicting Garrett Hardin’s Tragedy of the Commons is among the activities the youths experience during the sessions, as well as understanding connectivity of life and ecosystems, capped by painting on canvas images of the country’s rich marine life.
