Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro - Puerto Galera’s new marine protected area (MPA) and mangrove conservation site was launched on August 26, 2015 with members of the community, municipal and barangay local governments and members of the sangguniang bayan of the municipality.
The MPA and mangrove conservation site, measuring 22 hectares, is composed largely of a mangrove forest coupled with reefs and seagrass. The new MPA is the municipality's second MPA.
The mangrove conservation site was developed into a revenue-generating eco-tourism destination by the provincial government, embassy of Canada and MFI, jointly managed by community-based organisations of barangays Tabinay and Dulangan.
