Oriental Mindoro - Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI) provided assorted safety gears to members of Bantay-Dagat in eight coastal areas in Oriental Mindoro to fully equip them in their seaborne patrol activities while protecting the marine environment. The support is part of the foundation's Verde Island Passage (VIP) Conservation Program which covers Batangas city and the whole east coast of Oriental Mindoro.
Bantay-Dagat volunteers, as fish wardens, are exposed to different risks in the sea, a situation which MFI deems it necessary to give them life-saving equipment such as lifejackets, life buoys, megaphone, binocular and other offshore safety tools.
Recipients of the logistical equipment are volunteer fisherfolks in Barangay Calima, Pola as well as in Barangays Ranzo and Banilad in the town of Pinamalayan, Barangay Agsalin, in Gloria, Barangay Puting Cacao, Pola and Barangay Balatasan in Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro. The said coastal communities have active Bantay Dagat volunteers who are jointly working with national and local law enforcement agencies in implementing fishery laws and in warding-off illegal activities in municipal waters.
