Manila, Philippines - National Scientist for Marine Biology Dr. Edgardo Gomez and Shell companies in the Philippines Vice President for Communications Ramon Del Rosario were elected today into the Board of Trustees of Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI).
Dr. Edgardo Gomez brings with him over four decades of experience and expertise in the field of marine biology. He was conferred the title of National Scientist by President Benigno Aquino III in August of 2014. He is the founding director of the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute and pioneered the highly successful breeding and restocking of Tridacna gigas in Philippine reefs. He is a Laureate in the United Nation’s Environmental Programme’s Global 500 Roll of Honour in 1989, a recipient of The Outstanding Filipino Award for Science (marine biology) in 1992 and a Presidential Lingkod Bayan Awardee in 2000. He is likewise recognised as an Academician by the National Academy of Science and Technology (1993) and a Pew Marine Conservation Fellow in 2001.
Ramon “Mon” Del Rosario is Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation’s (PSPC) Vice President for Communications. He started his career in 1981 as a Commercial Fuels Account Manager in PSPC before moving progressively to various local and international roles in Shell, including General Manager for Shell Gas Philippines Inc. In 2011, he became Chief Executive Officer of Isla LPG Corporation. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of the Philippines in 1980 and a Masters degree in Business Administration from the Ateneo de Manila Graduate School of Business in 1984.
