Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro — Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI) together with the provincial government of Oriental Mindoro turned over yesterday, July 20, 2018, a marine protected area volunteer sea ranger (bantay dagat) station in Barangay Banilad, municipality of Pinamalayan.
The station was an output of skills training and materials by MFI and counterparting with the community and local governments of Pinamalayan and Oriental Mindoro.
The conservation agreement with Banilad was originally signed in September 2013 with its neighboring barangay community, Ranzo. Both areas have since improved management of their respective MPAs followed by notable increases in fish populations and recovering reefs.
Barangay Banilad is among the conservation partner sites of MFI in Oriental Mindoro for its marine biodiversity conservation program spanning the east coast of the province and Batangas City.
