Calapan, Oriental Mindoro—Two (2) batches of educational youth camps were completed on August 11, 2023 in Oriental Mindoro for Malampaya Foundation Inc.’s (MFI’s) and partners’ regular engagements with the next generation on environmental stewardship.
A total of 111 children from the different coastal municipalities of the province and Isla Verde, Batangas City participated in the three-day camp to learn about basics of marine ecosystems, interconnectivity with inland ecosystems, human impacts on the environment, conservation basics, environmental laws, climate change, others. The children have actual exposures to major coastal habitats such as mangroves, seagrass and corals during the three-day camp and go home with simple youth-based action plans they can implement in their community.
The Environmental Youth Action Camps are held annually by MFI with the Oriental Mindoro Provincial Agriculture Office, PGENRO, and municipal agriculture offices of 11 coastal municipalities from Puerto Galera to Bulalacao.
