MFI turns over completed Marine Protected Area guardhouses in Gloria and Pinamalayan

Gloria and Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro — Malampaya Foundation (MFI) turned over on February 2, 2017 marine protected area (MPA) guardhouses in coastal barangays of Ranzo, Pinamalayan and Sta Theresa, Gloria in the province of Oriental Mindoro for the strengthening of MPA regulations enforcement by the local governments and community volunteers.

The structures were outputs from skills trainings in carpentry and masonry for community members conducted by MFI with the support of the municipal government and Technical Education and Skills Training Authority (TESDA).

Enforcement strengthening of marine protected areas is a key element in MFI’s Verde Island Passage conservation program in partnership with the provincial government of Oriental Mindoro and various municipal local governments.
