El Nido, Palawan - A conservation covenant with Bucana, El Nido-based people’s organisation Samahang Nagkakaisang Magsasaka, Mangingisda at Kababaihan tungo sa Maunlad na Kinabukasan ng Pamayanan (SANMKAP), Department of Environment and Natural Resources El Nido Protected Area Office (DENR-PAO), El Nido local government, Bgy Bucana and Malampaya Foundation Inc (MFI) was signed on November 4, 2014 to improve management and protection of coastal and marine ecosystems present in the locality.
The covenant is MFI’s 13th conservation agreement and the 5th in Palawan. It binds the parties to work together towards a common goal of helping regenerate the ecosystem of identified areas, and incentivising the community organisation through environment-friendly livelihood endeavours as part of attaining sustainable financing mechanism for various conservation actions.
