Batangas City — After Taal volcano’s initial phreatic eruption on January 12, 2020, evacuees arrived in droves into different evacuation centers in Batangas City, many with nothing but the clothes they had on in the haste of escaping nature’s fury.

Following the phenomena, Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI) launched a support program with partners such as Philippine Red Cross-Batangas Chapter, to provide hot meals, beddings and free laboratory services for evacuees that stayed in evacuation centers and barangays indefinitely until the alert level was lowered to three (3) by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

For three weeks, MFI provided meals in the different evacuation sites which included a sports center, schools, a DSWD center and homes of good samaritans in the city. The Malampaya Clinical Laboratory in Barangay Ambulong likewise provided free laboratory test services and doctor consultations for evacuees in need of diagnostic services.
