Puerto Princesa, Palawan - Malampaya Foundation Inc. signed memorandum of agreements with Western Philippines University (WPU) and Palawan State University (PSU) on May 7, 2014 to launch the Malampaya Sustainable Development Scholarship Program, a full undergraduate and post-graduate university scholarships in the areas of engineering, energy development, environment management and marine sciences.
The scholarship aims to form a critical mass of professionals and specialists on energy development and environment and natural resources management to help the provinces of Palawan, Batangas and Oriental Mindoro pursue sustainable development. It is intended for the local residents of the three provinces who possess the motivation and desire to serve their localities.
The scholarship is designed to meet the requirements of sustainability—balancing the economic, social and environmental aspects of a society’s development needs. Over the long-term, the program envisions the creation of a pool of local human resources that will provide leadership, advocacy and services in the conservation of natural resources, protection of environmental quality and the promotion of clean energy technologies. After graduation, the scholars are expected to actively participate in the development efforts of their respective localities.
The scholarship is for bona fide residents of the provinces of Palawan, Oriental Mindoro and Batangas. Other universities included in the scholarship are University of the Philippines and Batangas State University. Below are courses covered by the scholarship program:
