Ten (10) former Bridging Employment through Skills Training (BEST) scholars in Batangas now find themselves conversing mainly in Nihongo since being deployed last May 2016 to work at Mitsubishi-Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) in Kure and Nagasaki, Japan.
The 10 BEST scholars were trained in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding through Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI) in 2015 and passed stringent language and skills-trade testing by MHPS over a period of more than 8 months at the company’s fabrication facility in Bauan, Batangas.
The former scholars hail from different parts of Batangas City and sought to work overseas to earn better for their families.
“My welding skills have improved greatly and I am learning more. My work is a never-ending learning process. I have adjusted to the Japanese culture though I miss my family very much”, shared Honald Celis, MFI’s former GTAW scholar in Japan.
For Mark Matus, another BEST scholar, “Maganda naman ang feedback sa amin dito. Marami akong natututunan at talagang nag-improve ang aking kakayanan sa welding at pagsalita ng Nihinggo sa pagtratrabaho dito sa Japan. Maraming salamat sa Malampaya. Domo arigatou gozaimashita.” (We are receiving positive feedback from our work here. I am learning enormously and my welding skills have improved, including my Nihonggo, from working here in Japan.
