Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro—Malampaya Foundation Inc (MFI) and its partners in Marine Biodiversity Conservation program have resumed face-to-face Environmental Youth Camps (EYC) since the onset of the Covid lockdowns.
The three-day EYCs aim to expose and educate youths from coastal communities about basic marine ecosystems, functions, importance and proper methods of management and conservation. Youths learn about beach-forests, mangroves, seagrass, corals and marine species that depend on these important species-forming habitats through lectures and actual site visits to the ecosystems.
MFI is in partnership with the provincial and municipal governments and other agencies such as the DENR and Deped in the conduct of the EYCs. Visiting Department of Energy officials also spoke about energy conservation at the recent Puerto Galera EYC.
