Oriental Mindoro — The strong link between environmental degradation to increasing severity of calamity impacts prompted Malampaya Foundation Inc (MFI) and its local government partners to incorporate in this year’s environmental youth camps modules on disaster preparedness suited for coastal communities.
The youths were educated about basic ecosystems, proper conservation methods, root causes of degradation, reduction of environmental threats, as well as lecture demonstrations on first aid, basic life support and disaster preparedness during calamities.
The youth camps were held in the municipalities of Pola, Pinamalayan, Baco, San Teodoro, Bulalacao, Gloria and Calapan in the province of Oriental Mindoro from May to early June.
