Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro - Eco-diver members of Batangas City and Oriental Mindoro reef watch teams were taught basic coral taxonomy to upgrade resource monitoring skills in select locations of the Verde Island Passage.
Learning methods included lectures, exams and actual surveys in the reef areas of Puerto Galera where eco-divers learned about coral families and specific genera’s. The enhanced knowledge is an upgrade on the reef check method of reef monitoring for Malampaya Foundation's marine conservation program sites.
Over 20 eco divers attended the workshop taught by marine science instructor Francis Xavier Verdadero.
