Coron, Palawan - Damaged boat engines on a small island named Bulalacao in Coron, Palawan will receive proper care and maintenance after a one-week training on small engine repair was participated in by 31 residents of the island via Malampaya Foundation Inc.'s (MFI's) Sanayan sa Ika-uunlad ng Kaalamang Pangkabuhayan (SIKAP) program. The skills training is applicable to small boats and motorcycles.
Coron was in the direct path of Haiyan (local name: Yolanda) on November 8, 2013, damaging many properties and boats despite the weakened intensity on its passing over the municipality and adjacent municipalities of Busuanga and Culion. Many fishermen's boats were partially or completely damaged, with majority attempting to salvage the engines.
The small engine repair training seeks to empower the fisherfolk community to repair and provide proper maintenance care on their boat engines through the intensive technical training and provision of tools and materials to the participants.
