Coron, Palawan—Six (6) island resorts and a pearl farm in Bulalacao, Coron signed a pledge on June 3, 2022 to continue its support to the multiple awarded 3,468-hectare Bulalacao marine protected area (MPA), established in 2014 with full technical and logistical continuing support from Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI).
The resorts and pearl farm are located within the boundaries of the MPA, which is planned for expansion by another 6,000+ hectares as initiated by the community and barangay local government unit (LGU) in 2019.
Two Seasons Island Resorts, Ditaytayan Island Resort, Coco Beach Island Resort, Waling-waling Island Resort, Banana Island Resort, Malcapuya Island Resort and Hekari SSP Corporation (pearl farm) pledged cash, materials, food and fuel support to the MPA management council on a monthly basis.
As partners to Bulalacao and its MPA, other signatories were Coron LGU mayor Mario Reyes, Bulalacao barangay chairman Sabino Flores, Katutubong Tagbanua ng Bulalacao apong dakulo Ronnie Salva, Barangay Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Management Council chairman Alepcede Yayen and the MFI executive director Karen Agabin.
