Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro - Calapan City with support from the provincial government agriculture office and Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI) celebrated Marine Protected Area (MPA) Week on September 28-October 4, 2015 with the theme “Bahura, Bakawan at Lusayan-Mga Marine Protected Area ng Lungsod, Ating Pahalagahan, Pagyamanin at Pangalagaan para sa Magandang Kinabukasan”.
The week-long celebration, which aimed to enhance awareness on the importance of conserving coastal and marine resources, included parades, mural paintings, an educational symposium, poster-making contest, clean-ups, an MPA fun run, MPA markers and bouys installation and a kayak race.
The celebration was participated in by several secondary schools, various barangays, Calapan citizens and other organisations operating in the city.
