Baco, Oriental Mindoro celebrates launch of new MPA

Baco, Oriental Mindoro - The municipality and communities of Baco on July 30, 2015 celebrated together with the provincial government of Oriental Mindoro (PGOM) and Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI) the launch of a new marine protected area (MPA) with an expanse of 153 hectares composed largely of mangrove forests.

The local government of Baco expressed its gratitude to the communities and partners who helped in the lengthy social and legal process to get the MPA passed. The PGOM through its Provincial Agricultural Office and MFI assured the continuing support to Baco to ensure proper enforcement and management of the MPA.
