Providing alternative livelihood for marginal coastal communities
Having alternative means to make a living in coastal communities is a dire need to reduce overfishing and other illegal fishing methods that lead to massive degradation of marine ecosystems.
The Livelihood Alternatives and Mariculture-Based Assistance (LAMBAT) Program aims to uplift the socio-economic conditions of fisherfolk families through capacity-building in environment-friendly methods of mariculture and other feasible supplemental livelihood for coastal communities.
MFI has helped fisherfolks gain other useful skills they can make a living from which is complemented with capacity-building for women on various enterprise-building skills. This way, dependence on the sea will decrease and hopefully reduce stressors that contribute to the rapid decline in the condition of marine resources.
